✨ What is the Glitter Gel Pen Book Club?
Welcome to Glitter Gel Pen Book Club, a Sydney meet-up for like-minded girlies who want to romanticise their lives, read sugary novels, and yap about them over a glass (or two) of natty wine. We’re here for the “frivolous” feel-good fiction, creating space to unapologetically enjoy and discuss books beyond the 19th-century literary canon. So if you’re in your twenties or thirties, craving a bit of escapism and love a rom-com with your rosé in an aesthetic setting, welcome to your new favourite cal invite...Why “Glitter Gel Pen”?
We are a book club that doesnt take itself too seriously. The name is s a nod to Taylor Swift’s “glitter gel pen” songs, the ones that are playful, fun and full of joy. What kind of books do you read?
We read sugary romance novels that embrace femininity, frivolity, and unapologetic joy. No anxiety-core reads here. Life is hard enough; why cry for leisure? And if books aren’t your thing, we also host listening parties, watch parties and other pop-culture events! Whether you’re a bookworm or just getting into reading, if you love romanticising life and debriefing with the girls, you’ll fit right in.What kind of events do you host?
We host at least one curated gatheringseach month, popping up at different wine bars, restaurants, and venues across Sydney. Locations are revealed when tickets go live. From intimate book discussions and elegant dinners to cultural nights out and hands-on experiences, there’s a GGP meet-up for every mood.Supper Club Series: Our signature dinner-party experience, built around good food, fine wine, and finally visiting those cute Sydney venues you've had saved in your notes app! We’ll have worksheets and prompts about our book of the month to guide you, but the vibe is intentionally flowy and unstructured.Sip Series: Smaller, intimate, and a little more structured. Perfect for readers who love more focused discussion. Expect curated questions, guided discussion, and a cosy setting designed for meaningful connection, with nibbles and wine in place of larger set menus.Studio Series: From ceramics and Pilates to bouquet making and craft-led workshops, these events pair our monthly read with a creative, tactile experience. Particularly perfect for first-time guests who enjoy an activity as they settle in.Streaming Series: For the nights when pop culture is the main character. Think album listening parties, season finale streaming nights and watch parties. We gather to experience the cultural moments together and then debrief in real time. Expect big fan girl energy and LOTS of passionate joy.Social Club Series: Social Club events are pay-as-you-go, just like catching up with friends. Everyone simply spends what they like on the day. No tickets, no pressure, just flexible, easy connection. Can’t make it in person? Join the conversation inside our Facebook group or our Book Yaps IG chat 💌
Do I have to drink wine?
Not at all! While we often meet at wine bars, you're welcome to sip on anything that tickles your fancy! Just let us know in the dietary requirements. Can I come solo?
Most of our girlies come solo! The community is so warm and like-minded that it never feels awkward. Every event is thoughtfully designed to keep the vibes high, the conversation flowing, and making friends feel totally effortless. If you’re feeling a little nervous, feel free to DM us 💌How do I come to an event, and what are the ticket prices?
We share events with our GGP close friends story first, then our mailing list and our Facebook group, followed by Instagram. Tickets are available through Humanitix, a not-for-profit platform. Prices vary by venue, but our priority is keeping things accessible by giving you a few hours of joy and connection, all while supporting some of Sydney’s best local venues.Who runs the club?
Glitter Gel Pen Book Club was founded by Sydney sisters Brittany and Ellese Ferdinands, academics who’d rather debrief a plot twist over pét-nat than pretend to exclusively enjoy high-brow classics. We, alongside our bestie Katrina Chan, were looking for a book club that didn’t take itself too seriously, but still gave smart, passionate people a space to connect, unwind, and romanticise life. That's how GGP was born. How much does it cost?
Ticket prices vary by venue, but our goal is always to keep events as accessible (and great value) as possible. Each ticket supports a local venue we love while covering your food, natural wine, all the behind-the-scenes admin, your GGP goodies, group booking service charges and a few wholesome hours of connection and escapism. Let’s be real, being a girl who loves dining out, collecting books, and maintaining a social life in Sydney isn’t cheap. That’s why we run GGP for the community, not for profit. And the cherry on top? Humanitix booking fees go 100% to charity. So truly, thank you, you generous queen🍒What happens if I need to cancel my ticket?
